About Chuy

Chuy is recognized as a licensed real estate broker, commercial real estate investor, and consultant for individuals and businesses seeking to purchase multifamily/commercial properties.  He also assists individuals who wish to learn how to passively invest their money (especially IRAs) in real estate.

He is a native of El Paso, Texas where his passions for music, art, travel, and historical preservation began.  He graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree from The University of Texas at Austin and worked as an engineer for Dow Chemical and Baker Hughes.  His last job before becoming a full time real estate investor was serving as an International Business Development Manager in Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, Trinidad and Colombia.  

After moving to Houston in 1991, Chuy began his entrepreneurial role of actively purchasing rental properties with a passion for making a difference in Houston’s lower-income communities.  Combining his engineering, project management, and business/finance skills he has purchased and renovated historical homes, apartment complexes, and commercial buildings.  In addition to buying and selling properties he maintains and operates a personal portfolio averaging 200 families currently renting from him.  He is also one of three owners of the beautiful Houston special event facility, The Bell Tower ( www.TheBellTowerOn34th.com ).

Impacting families’ lives and supporting the arts community are two areas that are dear to his heart.  He purchased a downtown warehouse in 2000 and it was transformed into a space called Barnevelder Movement/Arts Complex ( www.Barnevelder.org ), a performance and rehearsal space that is shared by the performing art community.  He is also honored to be a Board Member this year for the dynamic non-profit art center, DiverseWorks ( www.DiverseWorks.org  ).

He still finds time to play sax and piano and has been a member of Houston’s ska band, The Suspects, for the past 15 years ( www.TheSuspects.com ).  Most importantly, Chuy’s proudest role is that of being a nurturing father to his wonderful kids Nicolas (13yrs. old) and Isabella (9 yrs. old).
